How to breath properly

Many of us breathe through our chest, and as we inhale our belly goes in and as we exhale our belly comes out.

This is not the correct way to breathe, whether you are meditating or just relaxing on the sofa.

Here is how to breathe properly and how to breathe Deeply during meditation:

1) Breath only through your nose

2) During Inhale: Belly goes OUT.

During Exhale: Belly comes IN.

A good test to see if you are breathing correctly is to check for two things:

First: When you breathe, your belly should be moving outwards as you inhale, and as you exhale it should be moving inwards.

If this is what your belly is doing, then you are doing good.

Second: As you breathe in and out, is your chest and shoulders moving upwards or they are stable?

What you want is for the chest and shoulders to be stable.

The Movement of the breath:

  • The Inhale breath Starts from the Navel, then moves up to the chest, and finally to the throat.

  • The Exhale breath starts from the throat, then to the chest, and back down to the navel.

This is one complete breath, and it is often called Balloon Breathing, because it is like filling up a big balloon slowly from bottom up and emptying it from top to bottom.
